COVID-19 Best Practices for Paid Sick Leave


Due to the recent updates regarding the Coronavirus Response Act, we have standardized the below options for our clients, available upon request. These options are intended to support you in automating paid leave tracking as a result of new employer mandates, which will go into effect on April 2. 


Earnings Codes

Two new earnings codes can be added to your company, in order for you to easily track compensation for employees due to the Coronavirus Response Act. 

  1. COVID-19 Sick Leave: used for the Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act (EPSLA)
  2. COVID-19 ⅔ Family Leave: used for Emergency Family and Medical Leave Expansion Act (EFMLEA) in which an employee would receive two-thirds pay


A COVID-19 Sick accrual profile can be configured in order to track COVID-19 sick time off. This profile will be user-maintained, where you can add 80 hours to the employee, and no additional accruing will occur. 


Leave of Absence Module: Free from LinkHCM

In these challenging times, our team is offering as much support as possible to help you respond quickly and efficiently to the new paid leave mandates. If you currently have Time and Attendance or HRIS through our system, we are offering the Leave of Absence Module for free until December 31, 2020. Through this module, you can track employee’s FMLA and EFMLA time used.

Tax Credits

While the Coronavirus Response Act mandates that employers can take advantage of tax credits immediately, we are still awaiting clarification from the IRS on how to report these payroll tax credits. We will update you as soon as we have clarity on next steps here.
